Last night my boo and I went into the French Quarter to have dinner with his old highschool friend. We haven't been to the French Quarter together since before the pandemic. And in general we avoid it because its the heart of the city and during the cooler months its swarming with wasted tourists. The ONLY time we both venture into the quarter is when we have guests from out of town that specifically want to see it.

Tourism slows way down during the summer, its hot and muggy, so people are naturally considering cooler destinations for their summer vacations. This leaves places like the French Quarter deserted compared to its winter crowds and the streets and bars are mostly occupied by the actual residents that live here and don't have the time or money to leave during the summer.

While waiting for his friend to show up. we ran into some musicians that my partner used to play shows with many years ago. Turns out they were playing a show a block away from where we were having dinner. So afterwards we walked down Decatur street to see some class act musicians play Gypsy guitar.

It was a rainy and cooler evening so it was even more quiet then usual. It reminded me why its such an incredible place to live. A place where you can walk down the street on a Wednesday night and see awesome music. All you have to do is be there.

Now reading a book about the history of the Red Light District of New Orleans.
