The sunshine beats down on the top of the greenhouse, bees buzz merrily, and the sound of an irrigation system can be heard dripping rhythmically. Inside, a girl is lost in thought, pensively clicking her nails on the side of an old tin watering can. Her glasses are perched precariously on the tip of her nose and the white flower patterned dress hangs loose on her body, revealing no apparent silhouette underneath.

The girl lets out a huff, wiping the sweat off her brow, and taking a seat on the edge of a wooden palette filled with soil and plants. She peaks past her glasses at the thermometer, the temperature reading literally off the chart, and the previous huff turns into a sigh of exhaustion.

*The summers just keep getting hotter and hotter. And it doesn’t help being cooped up in here all day. At this point you’d think I’m one of the tropical plants I take care of.*

She glances at the locked door and glazed windows of her greenhouse shop, hiking her dress up to her thighs to try to cool down even just a little bit.
