I knew something was off this morning, explaining to my friend Charlie that I didn’t feel like myself, really down but was planning on filming customs to cheer myself up and would see how I felt in the afternoon. Out of nowhere, something started to happen with my eye. It began with a small line of bright colours, that wouldn’t fade, no matter how much I blinked. Slowly the line began to blur and I realised that when I looked at anything part of my vision was blurred enough that I couldn’t see everything I was looking at. I was looking in the mirror, trying to find anything lodged that could be obscuring my vision when the blurred spot began to move and expand drastically. I’m not ashamed to admit that in that moment, I thought I was losing my vision entirely. It was terrifying and I called my optician, who said they would get back to me and get me seen to. It took over an hour for this to be arranged, at which point I was beginning to feel unwell and experience pains in my head. The optician checked me over and determined it was an Optical Migraine. Apparently, this is common for migraine sufferers, however, after over a decade of migraines, I can safely say I’ve never experienced this before. The optician did say that the first time can be frightening, especially if you have no idea what’s happening to you. I’m happy to say my vision is now fine but the migraine remains. The optician has warned me about screen time, though admittedly I was aware I do spend too much time looking at my phone. I’m embarrassed I caused such a fuss but I can’t explain to you in that moment how it felt. With that being said, I am in a dark room, riding out the migraine and if I don’t come back online today, I will be back tomorrow.
