Just a little feel up. With some hairy armpit action since you’ve been asking.

I’m also going to plug the Good Lord Bird here before getting into LC.

Has anyone been watching Lovecraft Country?

What a monumental show. Truly a masterpiece of television. And the effects, oh my god. They’re incredible. I’m a huge sfx makeup and puppet nerd.

Science-fiction and horror, overall, are genres that have a huge problem with making stories that are allegories for racial injustice and racism, while insisting that people of color don’t exist in those worlds as protagonists. It’s hard to find a film where the black character isn’t the villain, expendable or a trope.

Lovecraft Country puts black voices, stories and history in the center of sci-fi horror. And it’s exquisite. What a better place to explore every emotion that makes sci-fi horror what is is than America in the 1960s as a black person.

In my opinion, the show is about freedom and how power comes from that feeling of freedom. How power corrupts when one is unbeholden to anyone or anything. Power and a sense of personal freedom are often linked to our histories; from our lifeline to generational. Wealth to self-esteem to mental illness are all affected by our personal history.
