**Super Crazy! Bold and Daring! My First Experience at an American LGBTQ Pride Event!**
Whether or not you're a member of the LGBTQ+ community, we've all experienced moments where we're too afraid of others' judgment to do what we really want to do.
Everyone says that America is very open and free, but is it really possible to live without caring about others' opinions?
This time, the event was incredibly fun, especially seeing how different it was from Hong Kong, which was truly shocking! The outfits were over-the-top but also full of confidence and creativity.
This Pride event was held at a park in downtown Reno, America. Reno, known as "the biggest little city in the world," offered a very unique atmosphere.
As an Asian person attending the event, I stood out quite a bit, and many people were curious about me as a foreigner. I felt that America has few "I" people (introverts) and many "E" (extroverts), with everyone full of curiosity. I was one of the few Asians there, and people found it fascinating that I was a foreigner, eagerly taking photos with me, chatting, and asking about my impression of the city.
I think it's hard to meet new friends on the streets in Hong Kong. People tend to stick with their own friends and don't talk to strangers, mostly meeting new people online.
Here, people's outfits had a strong sense of ritual. Whether they were wearing BDSM leather restraints, dressing as a dog, or as a drag queen, the clothing was incredibly bold, something you would rarely see at Hong Kong LGBTQ events.
The event had golf carts and small trains moving around, with stalls and stages everywhere, making the atmosphere lively and festive. People were also very friendly. I introduced my “Group Activity World Cup” to the locals, which piqued their curiosity, and they shared their local LGBTQ events with me, as well as their partner-swapping experiences.
The vibe of open exchange felt incredibly free and comfortable. In Hong Kong, I tend to be more reserved.
In this American LGBTQ Pride event, with music, delicious food, and a laid-back atmosphere, I spent a relaxing afternoon, feeling very at ease and happy.
It was quite different from my experience at LGBTQ+ events in Hong Kong. The inclusiveness here was incredibly inspiring, making me feel more willing to show my true self.
Whether you're part of the LGBTQ+ community or not, I think it's a great idea to join local Pride events when you travel. It’s a fantastic way to experience different cultures, challenge your own preconceived notions, and just do what you want to do.
