Surprisingly there are some classic horror movies I’ve never seen before and this is one of them 

George C Scott stars as John Russell a composer who moves across the county into an long vacant mansion maintained by a historical society following the deaths of his family . 

It doesn’t take long for strange things to occur in the big house . Running water and strange sounds are explained away by old pipes but as things get more and more odd he calls upon experts to hold a seance in the home where he discovers, after playing back the audio recordings , that someone was murdered nearly 80 years ago . 

Scott’s acting is impeccable and he does a great job portraying a logical man looking for a logical reason behind the ghostly happens in the old home . The movie doesn’t rely on gore or jump scares, the dread builds slowly for the viewer as the character investigates the mystery and gets deeper and deeper involved and there are some genuinely creepy moments throughout the film 

It’s not the scariest film but there are some great moments of dread and the acting is terrific and for a haunted house movie it’s particularly good.
