***RADIUM GIRL*** This photoset was inspired by the women of the 1920s who worked in radium factories. The radium had a special effect that made it glow (which was radioactive). Women working in these factories usually used radium to paint onto the faces of watches, so they could glow in the dark. They were advised to wipe off the excess radium paint using their tongues, to keep the tip pointed for precise detail work. Radium was really intriguing, due to it's glowing properties and lead to being played with sparingly for fun. Unfortunately, radium is very similar to calcium, therefore if ingested, is stored within the bones. Many of these women died due to complications of bone cancer. Many years ago, I remember seeing a 1000 ways to die episode about the radium women of the 1920s, and one of the women used the radium to spice things up in the bedroom. I thought it was so sexy! I was very excited to bring this look to life a few years back, and am always so excited to revisit it. I hope this photoset gives you a little glimpse into history, and keeps your Halloween spirits high!
