When you want someone to do something, the psychological aspect at work is you being able to take command. 
If you want a person to stand still and you say “stop moving” it is much harder to get what you’d like than if you used a *positive* directory phrase such as “please stand still.” People automatically do what they are told when it isn’t negative. 
Simply *hearing* the word “don’t” causes the brain to ……DON’T anything you want 🤣 and it has the *reverse* effect on the person on the receiving end of the command. 

When you say “don’t be shy call me” all that does is give the listener the choice to tell you no and then to continue being shy. 

Telling people to “be brave and call me now” is not only a better way to practice healthy communication, but it’s a faster way to get what you want. Tell people what you want and they will be more likely to do it. 

Do you think I’ve been fucked continually for the past 25 years by telling people “don’t walk away?” Uh no I tell them to “get over here and fuck me” and that’s what they do. -AP 💋
