A poem I wrote for a class in college in 2018 🌱💚

Mother Earth 

Long ago, I was healthy. 
My rivers and oceans swelled with clear water. 
Now they are choked with trash and I cannot breathe. 

In the beginning, I was complete. 
My forests were lush and full, 
my marshes were pristine and plentiful. 
Now my forests are destroyed, my marshes are drained and I cannot shelter. 

In years past, I was untouched. 
My air was fresh and pure. 
Now my air is clogged with smog. 
I am burning up, and I cannot inhale. 

In a time extinct, I was a home for many. 
My forests, deserts, icebergs, and rivers housed all kinds of creatures. 
Now my forests are demolished, my deserts are built up, my icebergs are melted, and my rivers are polluted. 
Many are lost forever and I cannot protect. 

Long ago, I was honored. 
I was your mother, your home, your provider. 
You respected me, you lived in harmony with my plants and animals. 
Now you have broken your connection and you destroy me. 
I am hurting, I am dying, 
		what have you done?
