**The Mystic: the Seeker, the Lightworker, the Dreamer**. From *The Wild Unknown Archetype Guidebook* and card deck. I am continuing my series of meditations where I pull a card from this deck and explore its concepts. Here is what the card says:

*The Mystic is often misunderstood in our culture, depicted as a wandering or lighthearted daydreamer. Yet like Shiva, the true Mystic plays a critical role in society, remaining fearlessly dedicated to the path of transformation. In order to save the earth from darkness, Shiva swallows the poison of the world and holds it in his throat, slowly transmuting the liquid into nectar. This is the work of the Mystic.*

*They do not fear darkness but rather sit in the presence of it, harness the potential and latent energy behind it, and embed it with light. They are patient and prudent changemakers, seeking growth above all else. Unanswerable questions are the Mystic’s lifeblood. The Mystic revels in mystery, in the great riddle of life, dancing with the forces of light and dark upon its wings.*

This card has shown up in readings for me repeatedly. Which makes sense. I regularly find healers, shamans, and mystics to support my path - often when I am not specifically seeking them out. We all need to be touched by the Mystic. It is an essential moment in our lives to witness the touching of the forbidden (often a shock) that is then transformed into divine wisdom.

The line that speaks strongly to me is that the Mystic remains “fearlessly dedicated to the path of transformation.” I made a decision long ago to prioritize my spirit - my self betterment, my divine advancement - over anything else in my life. While there are duties I must attend to in the material realm (which often reflect the spiritual realm), I have made the commitment to remain focused on spiritual growth and self-transformation with how I relate to others and how I make decisions both small and large.

The concept of lightworker resonates deeply with me; swallowing poison (darkness) to transform it into nectar (light). The first and most important task for the lightworker - and for all of us - is to do this work within ourselves. Seek out our inner poisons and detoxify ourselves, through our food, through our physical health, through our psyches, and through our souls. There is no “finished” with this work. Even the most enlightened shaman must keep up the practice each day… each moment.
